The purpose of grinding the coffee beans is to increase the surface area that will make contact with the water. The finer or coarser the grinding, the faster the water will run through it.

The thickness and consistency of the grinding determine the flavor of a coffee, if the particles are not consistent or the grinding is not adequate for your coffee maker, the coffee will have a bitter taste or will have a sour and vinegary taste, that is to say, the particles will soak too much or not enough.


FINE GRINDING: It has particles that are compacted, this makes the water move slower, there is more surface area treated, which makes the extraction greater. It is the most used in the pressure methods: espresso, Italian moka and aeropress. In the mouth, it has bitter tones.

Turkish coffee is prepared with an extra-fine grinding.
